Now on to what we are up to these days...
Laura and I are currently in the process of training for the Memphis Marathon on December 3rd. We started a training program that takes some of the taining techniques that Kenyans and Italians (yes the fast runners from tv that win these races) use. Here's a link to the program: http://www.marathon-training-schedule.com/marathon-training.html We started the program about 4 weeks ago with our awesome fast friend Ashley (not Kenyan or Italian...I think, ha!), she found us the training program. We did our first long run this morning, around 10 miles, and it went well.
I recently completed Ironman Florida back in November 2010, with some great pals! My time wasn't as fast as I was hoping for and it was because the marathon portion of the race ate my lunch. I under estimated the distance and effort of the marathon and it showed. I had friends who were running long distances the day after our 100 mile bike rides on Saturdays during our training schedule but still I thought my swimming, running, and biking through out the week would suffice for race day. Big mistake. My Ironman time ended up being 14:14:07. (btw, was totally excited about finishing the race and the feeling of crossing the finish line was so awesome!!) The marathon time however was around 6:12 and I was hoping for a better. I was feeling great heading out after the bike portion but I hit that ever dreaded wall too soon. Here were my splits:
| RUN SPLIT 1: 6mi | 6 mi. (1:05:42) | 10:57/mile |
| RUN SPLIT 2: 13.05mi | 7.05 mi. (1:39:19) | 14:05/mile |
| RUN SPLIT 3: 19.05mi | 6 mi. (1:28:42) | 14:47/mile |
| RUN SPLIT 4: 26.2mi | 7.15 mi. (1:59:12) | 16:40/mile |
I wasn't too exhausted but my feet really started hurting after my first split. I attribute that to not getting my body used to running those long distances. (I could be way off base on that thought)
So, anyways, I said all that to tell you that our training program is shooting for the 4 hr marathon mark! We'll see how that goes but anything under 5 hrs would be great in my book.
I say ALL this because my Ironman friends have set up a fun race series and blogs. See link: http://teamsquish.blogspot.com/2011/08/welcome.html (Shout out to Ricky for setting it up) Seems like it will be a blast.
